NYOMA : The Zonal Level Inter-School Tournament for middle schools of Nyoma and Durbuk zones commenced on Tuesday at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Nyoma, bringing together young athletes from across the Changthang region for three days of sporting competition.
The tournament, scheduled to conclude on June 11, was inaugurated by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Changthang, Zaheer Abbas Jafari (JKPS), who attended the opening ceremony as the Chief Guest.
Students from various schools across the two zones are participating in a range of sporting events aimed at promoting sportsmanship, teamwork and healthy competition among young learners.
The inaugural function was also attended by District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Leh, Tsering Tashi, along with officials of the Youth Services and Sports Department, school heads, teachers and students.
Organisers said the tournament provides an important platform for identifying and nurturing emerging sporting talent at the grassroots level while encouraging greater participation in extracurricular activities.
Addressing the gathering, speakers highlighted the role of sports in fostering discipline, teamwork, physical fitness and leadership qualities among students. They encouraged participants to compete with dedication and uphold the spirit of fair play throughout the tournament.
The three-day event is expected to witness enthusiastic participation from students representing schools across Nyoma and Durbuk zones, strengthening interaction and camaraderie among young athletes from different parts of the region.
