LEH, Aug 20: US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor arrived in Leh on Thursday after concluding his visit to Kashmir, marking a significant visit by a senior US diplomat to the strategically important Ladakh region.
Gor reached Leh Airport from Srinagar in the afternoon after flight operations were delayed earlier in the day due to adverse weather conditions, officials said. The delay had sparked speculation that his scheduled Ladakh visit could be postponed.
The visit comes amid continued strategic importance of Ladakh, which shares sensitive borders with China and Pakistan.
Ladakh has remained a key security region since the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes between Indian and Chinese troops, which triggered a prolonged military stand-off and increased troop deployments along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Gor had visited Srinagar on Wednesday, where he met Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah before travelling to Leh.
