CHUSHUL: As part of the ongoing Khet Bachao Abhiyan 2026, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Nyoma, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Ladakh, organised a farmer training programme at Chushul, focusing on sustainable agriculture, natural farming and income-enhancing technologies.

Held in one of the country’s strategically important border villages, the programme drew the participation of 47 progressive farmers, including village representatives, and aimed to strengthen awareness of eco-friendly farming practices, value addition and government support schemes available to the agricultural community.

A key feature of the programme was a field demonstration on mushroom cultivation and the preparation of Jeevamrit, a widely used natural farming input. Farmers received hands-on training in these low-cost technologies, which experts said have the potential to improve soil health, reduce cultivation costs and enhance farm productivity.

Addressing the participants, Head of KVK Nyoma, Dr. Phuntsog Tundup, highlighted the importance of adopting sustainable farming methods suited to the region’s unique agro-climatic conditions. He encouraged farmers to utilise scientific knowledge and locally available resources to strengthen agricultural resilience and improve livelihoods.

The programme was also attended by Dr. Tashi Dolkar, Scientist, KVK Nyoma; Mohd Ramzan, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer (SDAO), Leh; Kunzang Dolma, Agriculture Extension Officer (AEO), Kharu; Tsering Dolkar, AEO Leh; and Chemet Lamo, In-charge AEO Durbuk.

The officials reaffirmed their commitment to providing continued technical guidance and extension support to farmers under the Khet Bachao Abhiyan and other agricultural development initiatives in border areas.

The programme concluded with an interactive session during which farmers shared field experiences, discussed challenges affecting agriculture in the region and sought expert guidance on improving farm productivity. Participants welcomed the initiative and expressed interest in adopting natural farming techniques and the technologies demonstrated during the training.
