Leh, Aug 23: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena on Saturday launched ‘Zhabstok Ladakh’, the Union Territory’s first official Youth Internship Portal, providing young people an opportunity to work with the administration and gain practical experience in governance and community development.

The portal, launched as part of Youth Month, will allow students and youth to apply for internships across 25 departments of the UT Administration through a single online platform.

The three-month LG Yuva Internship Programme will commence on September 17. Registration will remain open from August 22 to September 5, followed by document verification from September 6 to 14. A total of 2,000 youth will be selected for the programme, according to an official communication.

Selected interns will receive a monthly honorarium of Rs 5,000 and certificates upon completion of the programme. Based on their performance, the internship of outstanding candidates may be extended for another three months.

The programme will provide participants with an opportunity to understand the functioning of the Government, gain practical exposure to public administration and learn about the implementation of policies and development programmes.

Interns will be assigned departments based on their skills and areas of interest, enabling them to contribute to various aspects of administration and community development.

Saxena said the initiative would provide Ladakh’s youth with an opportunity to serve the region while bringing their ideas and energy to addressing local challenges.

“With a large portion of our population under 30, I am confident that their ideas and energy would strengthen and enrich each of these departments,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor described youth as Ladakh’s greatest strength and said their participation would be crucial in shaping the region’s future and advancing the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.

The initiative is aimed at creating a stronger connection between young people and the administration while encouraging greater youth participation in governance and development.
