Jammu, Jul 19: At least eight people were injured when a passenger bus overturned near Jhajjar Kotli along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on Friday. The mishap occurred as the bus was travelling from Udhampur to Jammu and reportedly lost balance after the driver lost control while negotiating a curve near Jhajjar Kotli, on the city’s northern outskirts.
Local residents and the police team from the nearest station responded promptly after receiving alerts about the accident. Rescue operations were swiftly launched, and the injured passengers were transported to the nearest hospital for medical attention.
Authorities have confirmed that all injured individuals are under treatment and their condition is being monitored. Police have registered a case related to the accident and initiated a formal investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the vehicle overturning.
Frequent traffic along the Jammu-Srinagar highway often faces challenges due to sharp turns, unpredictable weather, and road congestion, making it vulnerable to such accidents. Commuters are once again reminded to exercise caution, especially in monsoon conditions.
The traffic on the route was briefly affected but later restored following clearance of the overturned vehicle. Further updates are expected once the investigation progresses. Authorities are also assessing whether negligence or mechanical failure contributed to the incident.
