KARGIL: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon on Tuesday directed all concerned departments to ensure comprehensive arrangements for the smooth and peaceful observance of Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 AH, while chairing a high-level coordination meeting at the Council Secretariat.
The meeting reviewed preparedness related to power and water supply, healthcare services, traffic management, sanitation, law and order, and other civic facilities required during Muharram processions and congregations across the district.
Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar (IAS), Executive Councillor Aga Syed Mujtaba Musawi, Additional Deputy Commissioner Shabbir Hussain, senior officers from key departments, police officials, and representatives of Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT) and Jamiatul Ulama Isna Ashria Kargil (JUIAK) attended the meeting.
Dr. Akhoon instructed departments to complete all arrangements well in advance and maintain close coordination throughout the observance period. He directed the Health Department to establish an additional medical camp at Taxi Stand Ground and ensure the availability of doctors, ambulances and emergency services.
The CEC also directed the Power Development Department and Public Health Engineering Department to maintain uninterrupted electricity and water supply. Stressing public convenience and safety, he called for effective traffic regulation, deployment of magistrates and volunteers, and adherence to designated schedules during processions.
Special emphasis was laid on sanitation measures, with the Municipal Committee Kargil asked to intensify cleanliness drives along procession routes and congregation venues. Dr. Akhoon also proposed recognising municipal workers after Muharram for their contribution to the successful conduct of the annual observances.
During the meeting, representatives of religious organisations raised issues related to transportation, parking facilities and other logistical requirements. Assuring full support, the CEC said all genuine concerns would be addressed in coordination with the concerned departments.
Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar stressed strict enforcement of schedules, adequate ambulance deployment, enhanced lighting arrangements, uninterrupted movement of emergency vehicles and improved inter-departmental communication.
