Jammu, Jul 24: A fresh batch of 3,500 pilgrims began their spiritual journey from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu on Thursday, heading toward the sacred Amarnath cave shrine located in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Officials confirmed that this group is part of the 22nd batch of devotees participating in the ongoing Amarnath Yatra 2025.
The pilgrims include men, women, children, as well as sadhus and sadhvis. They departed in two convoys comprising 140 vehicles, traveling under tight security measures toward the traditional pilgrimage routes of Pahalgam and Baltal. Out of the total, 2,668 pilgrims chose the Pahalgam route, while 832 took the Baltal path.
Since July 2, when the first batch was flagged off by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, a total of 1,33,878 pilgrims have left from the Jammu base camp for the Amarnath Yatra. The 38-day annual pilgrimage officially began on July 3 and has so far witnessed over 3.40 lakh devotees offering prayers at the 3,880-metre-high cave shrine, which houses the naturally formed ice Shivling.
In 2024, more than 5.10 lakh pilgrims undertook the yatra, marking a significant spiritual turnout. This year’s pilgrimage will conclude on August 9, aligning with the festival of Raksha Bandhan, drawing devotees from across the country to seek divine blessings.
