Jammu/Kargil, Sept 19: In a major breakthrough against financial fraud, Jammu Police has restored ₹50 lakh to a resident of Kargil who was duped in a fraudulent property transaction. The victim, Mohd Baqir of Barsu in Ladakh, was cheated by Gurpreet Singh and Simranjit Kaur of Laxmi Nagar, Sarwal, Jammu, after being sold a house embroiled in civil litigation.
The case was taken up by Bakshi Nagar Police Station where FIR No. 70/2025 was registered under relevant sections. Acting promptly, SHO Insp Arun Sharma and Sub Inspector Sunil Thakur of Police Post Sarwal spearheaded the probe under the supervision of SDPO City West Dr. Satish Bhardwaj, SP City North Vivek Sharma and overall command of SSP Jammu Joginder Singh.
During financial investigation, police unearthed that the accused had parked the cheated sum in fixed deposits. The accounts were immediately frozen, enabling recovery of the entire amount. Following court directions, the State Bank of India Sarwal branch transferred the restored sum into Baqir’s account.
Expressing gratitude, Baqir hailed Jammu Police for their professional and dedicated handling of the case, crediting them for safeguarding his hard-earned savings and ensuring justice.
Officials recalled that only a few months ago, SDPO City West had also facilitated the recovery of ₹62 lakh for a Hyderabad-based victim of cheating, drawing public praise for the police’s uncompromising stand on protecting citizens’ interests.
The recovery once again underscores Jammu Police’s commitment to upholding justice and their readiness to act across jurisdictions in defence of public rights.
