Leh, Apr 26 : A comprehensive Civil Defence Air Raid and Blackout Mock Exercise was carried out in Leh Market on April 24, bringing together multiple emergency response agencies in a coordinated effort to assess preparedness and response mechanisms under simulated crisis conditions.
The exercise, supervised by Sheikh Aadil, Incharge UTDRF Ladakh and Deputy Superintendent of Police UTDTF Leh, featured a series of scenario-based drills designed to mirror real-time emergencies. These included an air raid warning followed by an enforced blackout, a simulated blast, a road traffic accident, and a building collapse.
Officials said the objective was to evaluate inter-agency coordination, response time, and operational efficiency under pressure. Participating teams from UTDRF, NDRF, Ladakh Police, medical services, and NCC units carried out evacuation procedures, search and rescue operations, and emergency medical interventions in a synchronised manner.
The mock drill also focused on public safety protocols, with authorities emphasising immediate response to air raid sirens, compliance with blackout measures, and disciplined evacuation practices. Crowd management strategies were also tested to ensure order during high-risk situations.
Observers noted that the exercise provided a practical platform to identify gaps in preparedness and streamline disaster response strategies. Officials involved in the drill highlighted the importance of such simulations in strengthening the region’s capacity to respond to potential emergencies.
The administration reiterated its commitment to enhancing disaster resilience across Ladakh, stressing that community participation remains vital. Residents in the area cooperated with authorities during the exercise and adhered to the issued guidelines, contributing to the smooth execution of the operation.
Authorities indicated that similar drills may be conducted periodically to maintain readiness and reinforce coordination among response agencies.
