Kargil, Apr 14: A blend of cultural affirmation and community participation marked a day of celebration at Bodhkharboo in Kargil district on Monday, as residents gathered in large numbers for the inauguration of a traditional welcome gate at Lhagang Yokmal and a felicitation ceremony honouring educators of Government High School Bodhkharboo.

The structure, developed under the Councilor CCDA Scheme at an estimated cost of ₹30 lakh, was formally unveiled in the presence of Hon’ble Councilor Padma Dorjey of LAHDC Kargil (Stakchay Khangral Constituency), alongside religious leaders, Army officials, and local representatives. The event drew participation from residents and members of various organisations, reflecting a shared commitment to cultural preservation and community engagement.

Addressing the gathering, the Councilor emphasised the need to safeguard local heritage while advancing infrastructure in rural pockets of Kargil. He commended the efforts of the organising body, Sangsnag Chosling Tsogspa, led by its president Ven. Konchok Nurboo, for coordinating the event and mobilising public participation.

The ceremony also featured the felicitation of Smt. Dawa Putut, outgoing Headmistress of Government High School Bodhkharboo, in acknowledgement of her three-year tenure. Speakers noted her role in strengthening academic discipline and fostering institutional growth, with her leadership credited for improving the school’s academic environment.

Simultaneously, the community welcomed the incoming Headmistress, Smt. Tsering Dolkar, along with newly appointed teaching staff. Residents expressed confidence in the new leadership continuing efforts to enhance educational standards in the region.

Among those present were Ven. Gayshay Gonbo Dorjay, Lt. Col A.K. Singh of the 17th Madras, Indian Army (2 I/C), the local Lambardar, and other prominent community members, underscoring the broad-based participation in the event.

The welcome gate, designed in traditional architectural style, is expected to serve as both a cultural marker and a symbol of local identity, even as the region continues to pursue developmental initiatives.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of organisers, dignitaries, and residents who ensured the smooth conduct of the event.
