The event was held under the banner of the Directorate of Youth Services & Sports, Jammu and Kashmir, with nearly 1,000 boys and girls taking part in the races.
At the opening ceremony, Anuradha Gupta, Director General, Youth Services and Sports, explained the concept and theme of the marathon and underlined the need for fitness, discipline and positive engagement of young people through sports. She congratulated the participants for choosing an active and healthy lifestyle.
The Mini Marathon was conducted in three categories — 3 kilometres, 5 kilometres and 10 kilometres. The routes passed through the historic City of Temples, while the finish line for all races was kept at the University of Jammu campus.
The races were flagged off by the Minister for Sports, Satish Sharma, who addressed the athletes before the start and encouraged them to compete with confidence and determination.
To promote wider participation, all runners were presented participation medals. Winners and position holders were awarded medals separately in each category, with separate results for boys and girls. The Minister for Sports also honoured the toppers by presenting medals from his own instant resources in appreciation of their performances.
Security and overall coordination of the event were supervised on the ground by Ajay Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police, South, who personally monitored arrangements to ensure a safe and disciplined conduct of the races.
The marathon also saw the presence of several social media influencers, whose interaction with student athletes added to the energy of the event and encouraged young runners along the route.
Adequate refreshment facilities were arranged for participants and officials, and a hygienic breakfast was served to all athletes after the completion of the races.
