Budgam, October 23: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said his government was making every possible effort to promote development across the Union Territory, adding that his visit to Beerwah was aimed at accelerating development works and addressing public concerns.
Speaking to reporters during his visit to the constituency, Omar said development projects worth approximately ₹26 crore had been inaugurated, while foundation stones were laid for several other initiatives.
“I am trying my best to bring progress in every area. This was my purpose of coming to Beerwah today,” the Chief Minister said.
Recalling his association with Beerwah, Omar said the people of the constituency had supported him in the 2014 elections and that he would remain grateful to them.
“In 2014, the voters of Beerwah did me a favour. I had told the people here that I will be indebted to them for the rest of my life,” he said.
Highlighting infrastructure development, Omar said the bridge over Nallah Sukhnag, a long-pending demand of local residents, had been completed and opened to the public.
He also announced that riverfront beautification works, including the construction of a walking track and viewing decks, were being taken up to improve public spaces in the area.
On electricity infrastructure, the Chief Minister said the foundation stone for a new receiving station had been laid and that the facility was expected to become operational within four to five months.
He added that a local transformer repair workshop was also being established to address electricity-related problems, particularly during the winter months.
“God willing, we will complete the workshop as soon as possible,” he said.
Regarding concerns over the proposed highway alignment and its potential impact on local businesses, Omar said the government had taken up the matter with the concerned highway authorities and would try to address the demands of residents.
On the demand for a stadium in the area, he said a suitable site would first be identified, after which the Sports Department would initiate the development process.
The Chief Minister reiterated that his government was committed to addressing local issues and improving infrastructure and public facilities across Jammu and Kashmir.
