KARGIL: Rural women associated with Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Kargil received tailoring training certificates and sewing machines at a programme organised by the Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI) at Gongma Minjee, aimed at strengthening self-employment opportunities and promoting financial independence among women.
The certificates were distributed to SHG members who successfully completed tailoring training under RSETI. Tailoring machines were also provided to the beneficiaries under the CAPEX Budget to support them in translating their newly acquired skills into income-generating activities.
Hon’ble Councillor Advocate Khadim Hussain, who attended the programme as the chief guest, distributed the certificates and machines and congratulated the trainees on completing the course. He urged the beneficiaries to make productive use of their skills to establish sustainable livelihood ventures and contribute to their household incomes.
Highlighting the role of skill development in rural transformation, Hussain stressed the importance of entrepreneurship and self-reliance among women, stating that economic empowerment at the grassroots level is essential for strengthening local communities.
The programme was attended by Sahil Grover, Director, RSETI; Rigzin, Chief Manager, State Bank of India (SBI); Muneer Rasul Wani, District Programme Manager, Ladakh Rural Livelihood Mission (LRLM); Habibullah, Block Programme Manager, LRLM; and Mohd Ali, MIS/Accountant, LRLM, besides SHG members, community representatives and other stakeholders.
Addressing the gathering, speakers highlighted the contribution of Self-Help Groups towards improving rural livelihoods and enhancing women’s participation in economic activities. They encouraged the beneficiaries to focus on quality production, explore market opportunities and adopt entrepreneurial practices to expand their income sources.
The speakers also underscored the importance of financial inclusion, enterprise development and continuous skill enhancement in fostering sustainable economic growth and strengthening rural economies.
Officials noted that such initiatives are helping create viable livelihood opportunities for women while advancing the vision of developing financially independent rural entrepreneurs. They observed that skill-based interventions have emerged as an effective tool for promoting self-employment and long-term economic resilience.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to RSETI, LRLM, SBI and the local administration for providing training, certification and livelihood support. They said the assistance would help them improve their earnings, support their families and contribute to local economic activity.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and a renewed commitment from stakeholders to continue promoting women-led entrepreneurship, self-employment and sustainable rural development across the region.
