Kargil, Apr 8: In a coordinated outreach to promote preventive healthcare, a free medical camp was organised at the District Court Complex, Kurbathang, on Tuesday to mark World Health Day, with more than 100 residents availing themselves of a range of diagnostic and screening services.
The initiative was undertaken by the District Legal Services Authority Kargil under the aegis of the Ladakh Legal Services Authority, in collaboration with the District Health Society Kargil.
The camp was inaugurated by Sheikh Gowher Hussain, who also chairs the DLSA. The event witnessed the presence of judicial officers, members of the Bar, legal aid defence counsels, court staff, para-legal volunteers and local residents.
A medical team comprising Dr. Hannan Wani, Dr. Murakeen, along with pharmacists, community health officers, laboratory assistants and paramedical personnel, conducted the examinations. The camp provided a comprehensive suite of services, including haemoglobin estimation, random blood sugar testing, hypertension screening, liver and kidney function tests, urine analysis and sputum examination for tuberculosis.
In addition, focused screening facilities were arranged for oral cancer, cervical and breast cancer, alongside dental consultations and cataract assessment, reflecting an emphasis on early detection of non-communicable and chronic conditions.
Officials said that approximately 115 individuals were examined during the camp. Of these, 15 women underwent breast cancer screening, while around 17 individuals were assessed for dental conditions and oral cancer. Vision testing and cataract screening were availed by 33 beneficiaries. Samples for further laboratory investigations were also collected.
The organisers acknowledged the support of the Health Department in facilitating the camp, particularly the contributions of Kacho Liaqat Ali Khan and Abdul Jalil Wani.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to expand access to basic healthcare services and to sensitise the public to the importance of regular health screening and early diagnosis.
