Kargil : The National Cadet Corps (NCC) on Saturday inaugurated a 10-day training camp at the 2 Ladakh Battalion NCC in Kargil, with the debut of the region’s first cadet band and a ceremonial Guard of Honour setting the tone for an intensive programme aimed at strengthening discipline and leadership among youth.
The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Brigadier Gurbir Singh, Group Commander, NCC Group Headquarters Srinagar, who, in his address, emphasised the values of unity, dedication and national service. He urged cadets to engage fully with the training schedule and to translate the experience into personal and collective growth.
The presentation of the newly raised cadet band emerged as the focal point of the opening session, reflecting the battalion’s efforts to expand both ceremonial and skill-based training components. The synchronised Guard of Honour further underscored the emphasis on precision and discipline that the camp seeks to instil.
According to officials, the training curriculum spans a broad spectrum of activities, including drill practice, weapon training, map reading, field craft and battle craft. Cadets will also receive instruction in first aid, physical fitness and drone operations, signalling an increasing integration of contemporary skills within the NCC framework.
In addition to field training, the programme incorporates workshops on leadership and personality development, alongside interactive sessions designed to enhance communication skills and teamwork. These modules, organisers said, are intended to prepare cadets for responsibilities both within the NCC and in wider civic life.
The camp forms part of a continuing outreach by the Kargil NCC Battalion to engage young people from the region in structured training programmes. Officials noted that such initiatives are aimed at building confidence, resilience and a sense of responsibility among participants, particularly in remote areas of Ladakh.
The camp will run over the next ten days, bringing together cadets for a sustained period of training and evaluation, with an emphasis on discipline, adaptability and collective cohesion.
