Leh : The Fire and Fury Corps of the Indian Army marked International Labour Day by conducting a series of outreach programmes in Leh and adjoining border villages, focusing on the welfare, rights and dignity of labourers.
According to an official press release, the Corps organised interactive sessions with members of the local workforce, recognising their role in sustaining development and infrastructure in the region. The engagement brought together labourers from various sectors, offering a platform for dialogue and acknowledgment of their daily contributions.
In a parallel initiative, awareness lectures were held in remote border villages, where residents were sensitised to issues concerning labour rights, occupational wellbeing and social dignity. The sessions aimed to bridge information gaps in far-flung areas, where access to such awareness programmes remains limited.
Officials said the initiative sought to reinforce respect for labour while underlining the importance of safeguarding workers’ rights in challenging terrains such as Ladakh. The effort also reflects the Army’s continued outreach beyond security duties, extending into community engagement and social awareness.
International Labour Day, observed globally on May 1, is dedicated to honouring the contributions of workers and promoting fair labour practices. In the high-altitude region of Ladakh, where labour supports both civilian life and strategic infrastructure, such initiatives carry added relevance.
