Drass : Seeking to institutionalise coordination between law enforcement and civil stakeholders in the newly carved district, Superintendent of Police Kacho Ishtyaq A.A. Khan on Saturday convened an interaction with representatives of key trade and transport bodies in Drass, assuring sustained support from the police in addressing operational and security concerns.

The meeting, his first formal outreach since Drass attained district status, saw participation from merchant, contractor and transport associations, which raised issues relating to traffic regulation, movement of goods, logistical constraints and public convenience in the region’s challenging terrain.

Responding to the concerns, Khan emphasised the need for structured engagement between the police and stakeholders to maintain law and order while ensuring the smooth flow of essential services. He reiterated that the district police would extend full cooperation, particularly in facilitating safer road usage and addressing bottlenecks affecting trade and transport.

Underscoring enforcement priorities, the SP called for strict adherence to traffic regulations and cautioned against overloading, describing it as a persistent risk on the region’s arterial routes. He also urged stakeholders to remain vigilant and assist law enforcement agencies in curbing unlawful activities, noting that community participation remains integral to policing in remote districts.

Participants, in turn, expressed their willingness to work in tandem with the police to preserve peace and ensure compliance with legal norms, indicating a collaborative approach as the district transitions into its new administrative framework.

Station House Officer Drass, Abdullah, was also present at the interaction, signalling an aligned approach within the local police establishment.

The outreach assumes importance against the backdrop of Drass’s recent administrative reorganisation, with the police leadership moving to establish early channels of communication with stakeholders central to the district’s economic and civic functioning.
