Leh, May 12: The Centre for Space Science & Allied Subjects, University of Ladakh, on Monday commenced a one-day field visit for MSc Remote Sensing students of Leh Campus to provide hands-on training in geomorphological and land use mapping techniques along the Leh-Khaltsi stretch.
The academic exercise is aimed at familiarising students with terrain interpretation, geomorphological observations and field-based mapping practices through the use of geospatial tools and scientific survey methods.
According to the organisers, the programme combines classroom learning with practical exposure in the field to help students understand landscape features, land use patterns and spatial analysis techniques in real-time conditions.
The field visit is being conducted under the supervision of Dr. Masoom Reza, Coordinator, Centre for Space Science & Allied Subjects, and Dr. M. S. Mondal, Assistant Professor at the Centre under the University of Ladakh.
Officials associated with the programme said such field-oriented studies form an essential component of remote sensing education, enabling students to apply geospatial technologies and observational methods beyond laboratory settings.
The visit from Leh to Khaltsi is expected to offer students direct exposure to varied terrain conditions and landform characteristics of the region, strengthening their understanding of geomorphological processes and mapping applications in mountainous landscapes.
