Drass, May 12 : Government Degree College Drass on Monday inaugurated a five-day Culinary Arts and Nutrition Workshop under the PM-USHA Gender Inclusive Equity Initiative, drawing enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members.
Around 30 participants have enrolled in the workshop, which aims to impart practical culinary skills, awareness about healthy food habits and knowledge related to nutrition and food safety.
The inaugural session began with the traditional welcome of the resource persons, Ms. Shehnaz Khan, Assistant Professor, and Ms. Suriya Bano from the State Institute of Hotel Management, Ladakh, Department of Tourism, by Dr. Mohd Javed Iqbal, Incharge Principal and Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, through the presentation of traditional khataqs.
Addressing the participants, Dr. Mohd Javed Iqbal underlined the relevance of such training programmes, stating that culinary arts and nutrition are essential not only for maintaining good health and nutritional balance but also as practical life skills. He appreciated the active involvement of students and urged them to utilise the opportunity effectively.
During the inaugural session, resource person Shehnaz Khan introduced the workshop module and explained various aspects of culinary arts, nutrition, food preparation techniques, hygiene and kitchen safety. She stressed the importance of maintaining proper hygiene standards during food preparation and handling.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Ms. Archo Fatima Nissa, Assistant Professor, Department of English, who coordinated the inaugural session.
The formal vote of thanks was presented by Ms. Parveen Fatima, Convener PM-USHA, who outlined the objectives and schedule of the workshop. She expressed gratitude to the Principal of the College, Mr. Nasir Shabani, for his continued support in organising the programme successfully.
She also acknowledged the contribution of the resource persons, organising committee, faculty members and participants for their cooperation and participation.
College authorities said the workshop has been designed to promote practical learning and awareness regarding nutrition, food safety and healthy lifestyle practices among students.
