Kargil, May 12 : Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer, LAHDC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar on Monday directed departments to expedite pending works under the Jal Jeevan Mission and strengthen inter-departmental coordination to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply across Chiktan, Sankoo and Drass subdivisions ahead of the peak summer season.
Chairing separate high-level review meetings along with the Additional District Development Commissioner Kargil, the Deputy Commissioner assessed the physical and financial progress of ongoing rural water supply schemes, status of Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs), restoration works and infrastructure gaps in remote villages of the district.
The meetings were attended by officials from the PHE Department, PWD R&B, PMGSY, Rural Development Department, Health Department and other line departments.
During the review of schemes in Chiktan and Sankoo, the administration directed officials to prepare a comprehensive improvement plan focusing on source stabilisation and tap connectivity for unconnected households, schools, health institutions and newly constructed government buildings. Departments were instructed to complete pending works within stipulated timelines and ensure equitable distribution of water supply infrastructure across left and right bank areas.
The Deputy Commissioner and ADDC also stressed the need for regular field inspections in villages facing implementation-related disputes and ordered weekly review meetings to monitor restoration works affected during road construction projects.
In an earlier review meeting concerning Drass subdivision and the proposed 24×7 water supply project for Kargil town, Rakesh Kumar, in his capacity as Chairman of the District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM), directed the administration to prepare a detailed District Improvement Plan addressing gaps in drinking water supply and source sustainability.
The Deputy Commissioner further instructed that villages declared under the Har Ghar Jal initiative be formally handed over to Village Water and Sanitation Committees through Gram Sabhas to ensure community participation in maintenance and sustainability of schemes.
Concerns regarding damaged water infrastructure in Muradbagh, Pandrass, Garkone and Tesboo villages also figured during the meeting, with directions issued for immediate restoration in coordination with the PHE Department.
