JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 28: In a major initiative to decongest major district towns and boost commuter safety, Traffic Police Rural Jammu launched a targeted enforcement and awareness drive against E-Rickshaws and E-Autos operating in violation of assigned routes and municipal traffic regulations.
During the initial week of the campaign (September 21 to September 28, 2026), operations focused on addressing growing public concern regarding unauthorized E-Rickshaw and E-Auto movement across major hubs, including Rajouri, Mendhar and Surankote Towns as well as adjoining highways. Indiscriminate entry and improper staging in these key areas had significantly contributed to severe traffic congestion and road hazards.
The operation adopted a dual strategy combining community outreach with firm legal deterrence. Prior to initiating enforcement, traffic officers conducted awareness sessions to educate operators against different violations including plying on highways, moving out of authorized areas, overloading, unauthorized modifications etc. They were explicitly advised against crowding major urban arteries and civic centers.
A written advisory in this regard was also issued by Traffic Rural Jammu on September 17, 2026 which was widely circulated in electronic, print and social media. Despite these advisory efforts, widespread violations continued. Moving decisively against non-compliant operators, enforcement teams impounded 304 E-Rickshaws and E-Autos and issued 536 challans for route violations over the course of the week.
Through this balanced framework of public engagement and uncompromising legal enforcement, Traffic Police Rural Jammu successfully restored order along key urban transit routes, eliminated major congestion points and protected the fundamental safety of pedestrians and commuters. Traffic Police Rural Jammu reaffirms its dedication to maintaining disciplined road networks across all rural districts and cautions public transport operators that strict enforcement against designated route violators will continue unabated.
