Turtuk, Aug 12: A large-scale cleanliness drive under the banner of Mission Indus Clean-Up was carried out today across several panchayats in Turtuk Block, drawing strong community participation and official support. The initiative, aimed at improving sanitation and environmental conditions, also extended to Thang, the last Indian village near the Line of Control (LoC).
The campaign was led by the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Turtuk, alongside officials from various departments and Nambardars representing local panchayats. Volunteers, including a high number of women participants, joined hands to remove waste, tidy public spaces, and spread awareness about the importance of maintaining a clean environment.
Organisers described the event as a community-driven effort where local residents worked shoulder-to-shoulder with officials to ensure the success of the campaign. At the conclusion of the drive, participants took a public pledge to uphold the cleanliness mission, mobilise more residents for future activities, and foster a culture of hygiene in their respective villages.
The outreach to Thang added symbolic value to the campaign, with the border community reaffirming its commitment to the environmental cause despite its remote and sensitive location. Officials expressed hope that such initiatives will not only enhance sanitation standards but also inspire similar drives in other parts of the region.
