Jammu, Jul 10: The district administration of Kishtwar, in coordination with the Shri Chandi Mata Sewa Samiti, has announced a temporary suspension of the revered Shri Machail Mata Yatra from July 15 to July 24. The pause will allow final preparations to ensure the safety, comfort, and spiritual experience of the lakhs of devotees expected to undertake the pilgrimage this year.
The Yatra – dedicated to Goddess Chandi Mata – will formally begin on July 25 and conclude on September 5, 2025. Held annually in the remote Paddar region of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, the pilgrimage attracts participants from across India and abroad, with devotees trekking to the sacred Shri Chandi Mata Temple in Machail village.
Authorities said the suspension period will be used to upgrade essential infrastructure along the pilgrimage route. This includes road repairs, improvements in sanitation and drinking water supply, restoration of electricity, and strengthening of security arrangements.
As an alternative, devotees are encouraged to offer prayers at the Chandi Mata Temple in Nagrota, located along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. The temple will remain open during the suspension period and will host special rituals for pilgrims unable to travel to Machail.
The Yatra will commence with the ceremonial Chhari Mubarak procession, led by the Shri Chandi Mata Sewa Samiti from Jammu. To ensure a smooth experience for pilgrims, the Kishtwar administration is making comprehensive arrangements.
Officials have urged devotees to plan their journey only after July 24 and to stay updated through official channels for the latest information on weather forecasts, road conditions, and registration protocols.
