New Delhi, Jun 09: In a key development within the Indian Army’s top leadership, Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai has been appointed as the new Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy). The appointment marks a significant step in the Army’s evolving strategic structure, with all operational verticals now reporting to this office.
Lt Gen Ghai’s elevation highlights the Army’s renewed focus on strategic coordination and operational efficiency. Despite his new role, he will continue to serve concurrently as the Director General of Military Operations, a position that plays a central role in planning and overseeing military engagements.
The announcement comes as the Indian Army intensifies its modernization drive, particularly in the areas of technology and tactical readiness. Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi had recently underlined the rising importance of technology in modern warfare. His remarks followed the success of Operation Sindoor, which he described not only as a military achievement but as a reflection of national unity and confidence.
General Dwivedi stated that the government had extended full strategic freedom during the operation, enabling the Army to act decisively. The mission led to the destruction of nine terrorist hideouts, reinforcing India’s commitment to national security and swift tactical response.
Lt Gen Ghai’s appointment is expected to further strengthen the Indian Army’s strategic planning and enhance its ability to respond to complex security challenges.
