Jammu, Jun 09: The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has approved the continuation of 19 judicial officers in active service beyond the critical age milestones of 50, 55, and 58 years. This decision, based on comprehensive performance evaluations, aligns with Rule 21(1) of the Jammu and Kashmir Higher Judicial Service Rules, 2009.
These periodic assessments are designed to ensure the judiciary upholds the highest standards of competence, integrity, and efficiency. Under the established guidelines, judicial officers undergo reviews at the ages of 50, 55, and 58 to determine their suitability for continued service until superannuation.
Following a detailed review of service records, conduct, and overall performance, the High Court concluded that all 19 officers have demonstrated the required judicial standards to remain in service. Their continuation reflects not only professional merit but also the institutional recognition of the value experienced officers bring to the legal system.
An official order issued by Registrar General (Officiating), M.K. Sharma, on June 7, 2025, confirmed that these officers are deemed fit to serve through the calendar year 2025. The list features district judges who have reached, or are set to reach, the prescribed age thresholds within the year.
These officers, born between 1967 and 1975, are currently serving in various judicial roles across the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. Their service extension signals the High Court’s commitment to judicial continuity and institutional memory.
The directive has been circulated among all administrative branches of the High Court, including the Registrar Judicial at both Jammu and Srinagar, the Registrar Vigilance, and the J&K Judicial Academy. Additionally, the e-Court cell has been tasked with uploading the order to the official website, ensuring transparency and public accessibility.
This move reinforces the judiciary’s strategic intent to retain experienced officers during a transformative period in the region’s legal and administrative systems following its reorganization.
