Kargil, Sept 04: National Wildlife Day 2025 at Government Degree College, Sankoo, was marked not just by celebration but by a resounding call to defend Ladakh’s threatened habitats. Students and faculty gathered under the banner of the Zoology Department, turning the occasion into a rallying point for conservation.
Opening the programme, Dr. Ahmad Ali, Head of Zoology, urged collective responsibility in safeguarding high-altitude species and pressed young learners to embrace environmentally conscious habits. His remarks set the tone for a day of dialogue and discovery.
In an interactive address, faculty member Dr. Shabir Hussain warned of mounting dangers posed by climate change, poaching and habitat loss. He pointed to community-driven solutions and inspired students to see themselves as future custodians of the region’s biodiversity.
A documentary screening added a striking visual dimension, portraying both the splendour and fragility of Ladakh’s wildlife. The film left the audience reflective, sparking renewed debate on conservation measures.
The college community expressed gratitude to Dr. Saleem Ahmad, Nodal Officer of the campus, for his guidance in fostering both academic and social initiatives. The programme closed with a pledge, taken collectively by students and teachers, to remain committed to conserving natural resources.
