HE Thiksey Rinpoche Honoured with World Peace Award

Leh, Sept 04: The World Peace Conference in Leh brought together spiritual leaders, scholars and diplomats with a resounding message: dialogue, inclusion and shared responsibility are indispensable for a harmonious future. The day’s proceedings blended sacred rituals with intellectual exchange, underscoring that peace is both a spiritual calling and a civic duty.
The programme began at Thiksey Monastery, where delegates joined monks in a special prayer dedicated to world peace. A Sangha Dana was offered on behalf of the organizing committee, symbolizing the generosity and harmony that underpin the conference’s spirit.
Attention then turned to the Shesrap Skyadtsal Ling Library and Learning Centre Thiksay Conference Hall for Academic Session II on the theme “Building Bridges: Dialogue, Inclusion, and Global Solidarity.” Venerable Bhikkhu Sanghasena chaired the session, expressing gratitude to His Eminence Thiksey Rinpoche for opening the venue, while Geshe Jamyang Tashi assured that the Centre would remain a hub for future collaborations devoted to peace.
Speakers enriched the session with varied perspectives on sustaining peace. Dr. Markandey Rai reminded the gathering that the responsibility of preventing wars rests with humanity at large, not governments alone. Maj. Gen. Dr. Yash Mor urged a shift towards a peace economy, arguing that resources should move away from destructive pursuits to education and welfare.
MAAsterG pointed to the power of interfaith dialogue in bridging divides, while Prof. P.R. Trivedi advocated global alliances to confront challenges beyond national borders. Ambassador Deepak Vohra highlighted diplomacy as a safeguard against conflict, and Ram Rohan Panta demonstrated how mindfulness and meditation nurture compassion and resilience essential for peaceful societies.
The day concluded with a moment of reverence as the World Peace Award was presented to Padma Shree His Eminence Nawang Jamyang Chamba Stanzin Thiksey Rinpoche, the 9th reincarnation of Jangsem Sherab Zangpo and head of Thiksey Monastery, in honour of his lifelong commitment to peace, compassion and universal brotherhood.
