DRASS: Deputy Commissioner Drass, Imteeaz Kacho led a major cleanliness and environmental conservation drive under the banner of ‘Clean Humas, Green Humas’, with hundreds of officials, volunteers, students and residents participating in a coordinated effort to clean Rambipura Market and adjoining areas ahead of the forthcoming ‘Swachh Surakshit Jalvayu’ campaign.

The campaign, which also served as a curtain-raiser to the week-long environmental initiative beginning June 1 and culminating on World Environment Day on June 5, focused on sanitation, waste management and ecological restoration across the township.

A major highlight of the drive was the restoration of the stream flowing through Rambipura Market. Leading from the front, the Deputy Commissioner joined officials, volunteers and local residents in removing waste accumulated in the water channel. The exercise also involved strengthening embankments, widening the stream to facilitate the smooth flow of water and plugging toilet outlets discharging into the channel to improve sanitation and environmental health.

Superintendent of Police Ishtiyaq Kacho joined the campaign, which witnessed participation from sectoral heads, government employees, religious leaders, members of the Merchant Association, Taxi Union representatives, ex-servicemen, volunteers, students and civil society groups.

As part of the initiative, saplings were planted at the Tourist Dak Bungalow, Government Higher Secondary School and the Deputy Commissioner’s Office with support from the Forest Department under the supervision of Range Officer Mohammad Ilyaz, reinforcing efforts to increase green cover in the region.

Addressing participants, Imteeaz Kacho underscored the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining public cleanliness and preserving natural resources. He urged citizens to sustain the momentum generated by the campaign and contribute towards building a cleaner, greener and environmentally conscious Drass.

The programme concluded with participants pledging continued support for cleanliness and environmental protection initiatives across the district.
