Srinagar, October 8: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has notified the City Gas Distribution (CGD) Policy, 2026, aimed at expanding access to cleaner fuels such as Piped Natural Gas (PNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) across all 20 districts of the Union Territory.
The policy was notified following approval by the Council of Ministers and is intended to promote cleaner energy, strengthen industrial growth and modernise J&K’s energy infrastructure.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the new policy establishes an investor-friendly and time-bound framework for expanding PNG and CNG connectivity among households, commercial establishments, industries and the transport sector.
Key provisions include coverage of all 20 districts, single-window time-bound clearances, simplified procedures for setting up CNG stations and standardised Right of Way norms.
The policy also prioritises gas connectivity for major industrial estates, particularly in Kathua, Samba and Pulwama, with the aim of improving access to reliable and cleaner energy for businesses.
The Government said the initiative is expected to help provide safer, more affordable and cleaner energy, while reducing fuel costs and improving industrial competitiveness.
It is also expected to encourage green investments and generate new opportunities in employment, apprenticeships and skill development across the Union Territory.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah congratulated Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Satish Sharma and the concerned department on the notification of the policy, describing it as an important step towards cleaner growth and sustainable development in Jammu and Kashmir.
