LEH: In a move aimed at strengthening teaching practices and improving learning outcomes in government schools, rZamba, in partnership with the Directorate of School Education, Union Territory of Ladakh, has launched a two-year pilot Continuous Teacher Professional Development (CTPD) Programme covering 40 government schools across Leh and Kargil districts.
The initiative began with a five-day induction programme in Leh, bringing together 40 teachers from 20 government schools adopted by rZamba. Simultaneously, a similar programme is being implemented in 20 government schools in Kargil, marking the start of a sustained effort to enhance teacher capacity through structured professional development.
The programme focuses on foundational learning, child-centred pedagogy, joyful classroom practices, social-emotional learning and continuous professional growth. Designed as a long-term intervention rather than a one-time training exercise, the initiative seeks to equip teachers with practical classroom strategies while fostering reflective and collaborative learning practices.
Education stakeholders described the programme as part of a broader effort to strengthen the quality of teaching in government schools and create more inclusive and engaging learning environments for children across Ladakh.
Addressing the inaugural session, the Principal of District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Leh, underscored the pivotal role of teachers in shaping communities and advancing educational outcomes. He highlighted the contribution of community-based organisations such as rZamba in supporting educational reforms and strengthening learning ecosystems at the grassroots level.
The Principal expressed appreciation for the active participation of teachers and commended the programme’s emphasis on meaningful and practice-oriented professional learning. He also acknowledged the support extended by stakeholders in facilitating the initiative.
Officials said the two-year programme would provide continuous academic support and opportunities for peer learning, enabling teachers to adapt to evolving classroom needs and improve student engagement and achievement.
