KARGIL: The Capt Anuj Nayyar MVC Football Tournament, organised by the Indian Army, concluded at Kargil on May 31 after 14 days of competitive football, bringing together young players from across the region in a celebration of sportsmanship, teamwork and community spirit.
The tournament witnessed participation from 20 teams representing Kargil, Drass and adjoining areas, providing a platform for local talent to showcase their skills while fostering healthy competition among the youth.
The closing ceremony marked the culmination of two weeks of intense matches that drew enthusiastic participation and support from players and spectators alike. Throughout the tournament, teams displayed determination, discipline and sporting excellence, contributing to a vibrant sporting atmosphere.
Organisers said the event was aimed at encouraging youth engagement through sports while promoting values of mutual respect, cooperation and unity. Beyond the competition for the title, the tournament served as an opportunity for participants to build friendships and strengthen bonds across communities.
Held in honour of Capt Anuj Nayyar, Maha Vir Chakra awardee and a hero of the Kargil War, the tournament also paid tribute to his sacrifice and legacy by inspiring young people to pursue excellence both on and off the field.
As the tournament concluded and a new champion emerged, organisers highlighted that its lasting impact lay in the goodwill, camaraderie and spirit of togetherness it fostered among participants from different parts of the region.
The event reaffirmed the growing role of sports as a medium for youth empowerment and social cohesion in Ladakh, with football continuing to attract enthusiastic participation across the region.
