LEH: Government departments across Leh district on Monday carried out a coordinated cleanliness drive under the “Clean Leh Mission 2026”, a district-wide initiative aimed at strengthening public hygiene, environmental conservation and civic responsibility through collective action.
The campaign, undertaken on the directions of the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, saw employees from a broad spectrum of government departments participate in sanitation activities within office premises and adjoining public spaces. The exercise formed part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to institutionalise cleanliness practices and encourage greater environmental awareness across the district.
Among the departments that took part in the drive were the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Ladakh Pollution Control Committee, District Treasury Leh, Statistics and Evaluation Office, Chief Horticulture Office, Council Secretariat, Tourism Department, District Sheep Husbandry Office, PMGSY, Power Development Department, Handloom Department, District Resource Centre, Forest Department, Animal Husbandry Department, Youth Services and Sports Department, District Mineral Office, District Industries Centre and the Department of Antiquities, besides several other government offices.
Officials said employees collectively engaged in waste collection, removal of litter and cleaning of office surroundings, reflecting a shared commitment towards maintaining cleaner workplaces and public spaces. The coordinated effort also sought to reinforce the message that environmental protection and sanitation require sustained participation from both institutions and the wider community.
The cleanliness drive is part of a broader series of activities being undertaken under the Clean Leh Mission 2026. The District Administration has been encouraging government departments, institutions and local communities to actively contribute towards creating a cleaner and healthier environment.
Officials noted that similar initiatives would continue across the district in the coming weeks as part of efforts to build public awareness and foster long-term community participation in cleanliness and conservation programmes.
