LEH: In an effort to promote environmental awareness and civic responsibility, students and staff of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Housing Colony conducted a cleanliness drive within the school premises and adjoining areas under the banner of the Project Clean Leh Mission.
The campaign, held on May 30, witnessed active participation from students, teachers and non-teaching staff, who joined hands to clean public spaces and spread awareness about the importance of maintaining a hygienic environment. The initiative formed part of ongoing efforts to encourage community participation in sanitation and environmental conservation across Leh district.
Carried out under the direct supervision of the school Principal, the drive focused on improving cleanliness within and around the campus while instilling a sense of responsibility among students towards their surroundings. Participants equipped with cleaning tools collected waste, removed litter from public spaces and segregated garbage to facilitate proper disposal.
School authorities said the programme was designed not only as a cleanliness exercise but also as an educational initiative aimed at sensitising young people to environmental challenges and the need for sustainable practices in everyday life.
The drive extended beyond the school premises to neighbouring areas, reflecting the institution’s commitment to community engagement and public welfare. Students actively participated throughout the campaign, underscoring the growing role of educational institutions in promoting environmental stewardship and social responsibility.
The initiative concluded with a collective pledge by participants to continue supporting cleanliness and awareness programmes, reinforcing the broader objectives of the Project Clean Leh Mission to build a cleaner, healthier and more environmentally conscious society.
