Leh, Jun 18: In a crucial directive aimed at ensuring financial accountability and regulatory compliance, the Office of the Registrar of Societies, UT of Ladakh, has issued a circular mandating all registered societies in the region to submit their Audited Balance Sheets and Income & Expenditure Accounts for the past three financial years by June 30, 2025.
The circular, issued by the Registrar of Societies/Director, Industries & Commerce, highlights that under Section 12D of the Societies Registration Act, 1860—as adapted for the Union Territory of Ladakh through the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 and further notified in S.O. 3805(E) dated 26.10.2020—all registered societies are legally required to submit their annual financial statements by April 30 each year. However, it has come to light that none of the societies have complied with this requirement to date.
Taking serious note of the non-compliance, the department has called upon all societies functioning under the Act within Ladakh to urgently furnish their financial documents for the last three financial years without any further delay. The submissions must be made to the Registrar of Societies, Department of Industries & Commerce, before the June 30 deadline.
This move is part of a broader effort by the administration to enforce transparency and accountability within civil society organisations operating in Ladakh. Failure to comply may result in appropriate administrative action under the provisions of the Societies Registration Act. The department has urged all stakeholders to treat the matter with utmost importance and adhere to the stipulated timeline.
