Jammu, Dec 25: The All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC) has raised concern over the prolonged delay in the appointment of an Advocate General for the Union Territory, stating that continued indecision on the issue is affecting institutional functioning.
Referring to recent media reports based on a reply obtained under the Right to Information Act, the organisation pointed out that the former Advocate General had reportedly submitted his resignation nearly a year ago. However, the resignation is yet to be formally accepted, and no final decision has been taken by the government so far.
AJKPC President Anil Sharma said that the Advocate General holds a constitutional office and uncertainty surrounding such a position is not in public interest. He stressed that timely decisions are essential for smooth governance and for maintaining trust in administrative systems.
“The office of the Advocate General serves as an important link between the executive and the judiciary. Keeping such a constitutional post without clarity is not healthy for the judicial framework,” Sharma said.
He further observed that Jammu and Kashmir has no shortage of capable legal professionals who can take up the responsibility, and urged the administration to act without further delay.
The AJKPC president also appealed to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to intervene and ensure the immediate appointment of a new Advocate General to restore normal functioning.
