JAMMU DEC 11: AIIMS Jammu recently organised a large-scale emergency preparedness mock drill in collaboration with the 13 Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force, focusing on handling a complex mass-casualty scenario within the hospital.
The exercise simulated a high-pressure disaster situation and involved coordinated participation from clinical, administrative, security, and support teams to test real-time response capabilities. A specialised NDRF rescue unit led by Deputy Commandant Praveen Singh Charak carried out operations such as structural evacuation, rapid triage, victim stabilisation, crowd control, and safe transfer of casualties to designated treatment zones.
Executive Director and CEO Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta praised the professionalism of NDRF personnel and the dedication of AIIMS staff, stressing that such drills are vital to strengthening institutional readiness and response accuracy. The drill was logistically steered by Col. Sanjay Garg, while Wg Cdr Dheeraj Jamwal (Retd.) ensured tight security coordination, communication, and resource mobilisation across departments.
Doctors, nurses, residents, paramedics, security staff, engineers and administrators all took part, reflecting strong teamwork and a whole-of-institution approach to crisis management. Media coverage of the event highlighted AIIMS Jammu’s proactive stance on disaster preparedness and its role in setting high standards for public safety in the region.
The mock drill reinforced AIIMS Jammu’s commitment to world-class emergency preparedness and deepened its collaboration with national disaster response agencies. Through regular training, simulations and inter-agency exercises, the institute aims to further enhance patient safety and serve as a reliable, resilient healthcare hub for Jammu and the surrounding areas.
