Srinagar, Aug 23 : A two-day review meeting of the Jammu and Kashmir BJP began Sunday to fix the agenda for its upcoming programmes, with discussions expected to revolve around various issues faced by people and highlighting the failure of the NC-led government to address them.
The meeting will also deliberate on the strategy of the party for the 2029 Lok Sabha polls and the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections which are also due the same year, a senior leader said.
Top saffron party leaders including MPs and MLAs are attending the two-day meeting, being held at a private hotel here.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines, Jammu and Kashmir Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma said, “People had high hopes with the popular government but it has failed on all fronts. We will discuss the issues and how to raise them, and make the government accountable.”
He said the BJP will hold a protest in the city on September 2 against “anti-people” policies of NC government.
Sharma also accused the National Conference (NC) government of “not allowing” panchayat elections which have been due since 2023. “They are not allowing grassroot-level democracy. The elections are due since 2023.”
Panchayat and urban local body elections are conducted by the State Election Commission, an autonomous body.
The LoP said instead of fulfilling the election promise of providing 200-units electricity free of cost, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has increased the tariff by nearly seven per cent.
The tariff hike was ordered by Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission of Jammu and Kashmir, a quasi-judicial body appointed by the Centre.
