KHALTSE : A series of plantation and cleanliness drives were carried out across Alchi, Saspol and Hanu to mark World Environment Day 2026, bringing together government officials, village representatives, students and local residents in a coordinated effort to promote environmental conservation and community sanitation.
The activities formed part of nationwide campaigns aimed at increasing green cover, encouraging sustainable practices and fostering public participation in environmental protection. A plantation drive was organised at Panchayat Alchi in collaboration with NHPC Nimoo Bazgo under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, with participants planting saplings and spreading awareness about the importance of preserving natural resources.
Meanwhile, a mega cleanliness drive under the theme “Swachh Gaon, Surakshit Jalvayu” was conducted at Panchayats Alchi and Saspol on June 4 as part of the ongoing national mission for cleaner and climate-resilient villages. The campaign was led by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Liker, Gurmet Namgail, and witnessed active participation from officials, village representatives, local residents and school students.
The drive focused on improving sanitation standards, promoting cleanliness and strengthening community awareness about environmental responsibility. Participants undertook cleaning activities at public spaces while advocating sustainable practices at the grassroots level.
A separate cleanliness drive was also organised by NTPHC Hanu in collaboration with villagers and Government High School Hanu. Officials, community members and students joined the programme, reflecting widespread public engagement in environmental initiatives.
The events concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to maintaining cleanliness, protecting the environment and supporting collective efforts towards building greener, healthier and more sustainable communities across the Khaltse region.
