KHALTSE: A plantation drive was organised at the Residential Hostel Khaltse and the Forest Department office premises on Friday to mark World Environment Day 2026, with students and officials joining hands under the nationwide “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign to promote environmental conservation and expand green cover.
The initiative, led by the Forest Department Khaltse, sought to foster environmental awareness among students while encouraging their active participation in afforestation efforts. Saplings were planted at designated locations during the programme, underscoring the importance of safeguarding natural ecosystems and strengthening ecological resilience.
Officials said the campaign was aimed at instilling a sense of environmental responsibility among the younger generation and encouraging sustainable practices at the community level. Participants were sensitised to the role of trees in maintaining ecological balance, improving environmental health and supporting long-term sustainability.
The event also served as an educational platform, highlighting the need for collective action in addressing environmental challenges and preserving natural resources for future generations. Students were encouraged to view environmental stewardship as a shared responsibility and to contribute actively towards conservation efforts.
