OTTAWA, Nov 7: Canadian police have arrested and charged two men in connection with an extortion-related shooting at comedian Kapil Sharma’s restaurant in Surrey, British Columbia, last year.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) identified the accused as Pardeep Singh and Saveer Khan, both aged 22. They were arrested on November 1 and have also been charged in connection with a separate shooting incident.
According to police, the incident at Sharma’s restaurant took place on October 16, 2025, when gunshots were fired at the establishment located in the 8400-block of 120 Street in Surrey. It was the third shooting incident at the restaurant since it opened in July 2025.
Although the restaurant was closed at the time, two employees were present inside. Fortunately, neither sustained injuries.
The two men are also accused in connection with another shooting reported on October 12, 2025, at a residential property in Surrey, where a woman was injured.
Police said both suspects have been charged with one count each of reckless discharge of a firearm in connection with the October 12 incident and another count relating to the October 16 shooting.
The BC Extortion Task Force took over investigations into both cases after investigators identified possible links between the incidents.
According to the RCMP, the charges followed an extensive investigation spanning nearly a year, involving multiple judicial authorisations, search warrants and detailed examination of evidence.
Chief Superintendent Duncan Pound, Lower Mainland District Operations Officer and Assistant District Commander, said the arrests reflected the continued efforts of law enforcement agencies to tackle extortion-related violence.
He added that police were working collaboratively to protect public safety and send a clear message to those involved in such criminal activities.
