NEW DELHI: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has strongly refuted allegations that the proposed amendments to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) are intended to target or curb the activities of religious organisations in India.
Addressing the media, Rijiju stated that “There are rumours being spread by the Congress Party and the Communist Party in Kerala that the Government of India is bringing changes to the FCRA to curb the activities of various religious organisations. This is completely false, fabricated, and misleading.”
He clarified that the aim of the FCRA Amendment Bill is to regulate the inflow of foreign funds into India and to prevent their misuse for illegal activities that could undermine national security. “Certain funds enter the country illegally and are used against the national interest. Therefore, this legislation is aimed at safeguarding national interest and security by ensuring proper regulation of foreign funds,” he said.
Rijiju reiterated that the government will not discriminate against any community. As the Minister for Minority Affairs, he claimed to have visited Kerala personally and stated that the Christian community in the state is facing several issues due to the apathy of the Left and the Congress parties.
