Jammu, May 12 : The Udhampur administration on Tuesday imposed a complete ban on the unauthorised sale of the newly introduced Indian Army camouflage uniform in the district to prevent cases of impersonation and misuse.
Officials said the decision follows reports that the uniform was being misused by anti-social elements, raising serious security concerns.
District Magistrate Minga Sherpa, who issued the order, said Udhampur’s proximity to key defence establishments, including the Northern Command headquarters, makes the issue highly sensitive.
“An order has been issued prohibiting the sale of the new pattern camouflage uniform of the Indian Army,” he told reporters, adding that the move is aimed at preventing impersonation of serving personnel.
The administration said only authorised personnel are permitted to use official military uniforms and materials, and any misuse could pose a threat to security.
Officials noted that several army-related shops operate in the district due to the large presence of defence personnel, making strict regulation necessary.
The order directs that no shop in the district shall sell the newly designed camouflage fabric or uniforms used by armed forces personnel. Enforcement teams have been instructed to ensure strict compliance and take action against violators.
Police have also been directed to monitor compliance, while residents have been urged to report any illegal sale or misuse of Army-pattern clothing to authorities immediately.
