Kargil, Jan 20: As part of the ongoing nationwide Road Safety Month, a debate competition focusing on traffic awareness and safe driving was organised in Kargil on Monday. The event was hosted by the Mini Bus Cooperative Transport Society Kargil under the theme “Sadak Suraksha, Jeevan Raksha.”
Students from various schools took part in the programme and shared their views on traffic rules, road discipline, and responsible behaviour on roads. The young speakers highlighted how adherence to traffic norms can help reduce accidents and protect human lives. Their participation reflected a growing awareness among students about road safety concerns in the region.
The programme was attended by Khadim Hussain, ARTO Kargil, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He appreciated the role of transport unions in taking the lead to organise awareness programmes during Road Safety Month. He also thanked the Mini Bus Cooperative Transport Society Kargil for involving schoolchildren and giving them a platform to speak on an issue that affects the wider public.
Addressing the gathering, Khadim Hussain urged people to observe Road Safety Month in a purposeful manner and to spread awareness about safe road practices among others. He appealed to citizens to act as road safety ambassadors and help promote responsible behaviour on roads.
Traffic Inspector DTI Fazil Abbas attended the event as Guest of Honour. He also interacted with students and encouraged them to follow traffic rules and motivate others to do the same.
The organisers said such activities aim to build a sense of responsibility among the youth and contribute to safer roads across Kargil and the wider Ladakh region.
