Kargil, Feb 8: Traffic authorities in Kargil on Saturday launched a focused enforcement drive against illegal parking in busy commercial zones, compounding 35 vehicles and seizing three others for lack of valid documents.
The operation was carried out by the Traffic Police Kargil following repeated complaints of congestion in market areas, despite the availability of designated parking spaces.
Officials said motorists continue to park vehicles in narrow streets and clearly marked no-parking zones, creating frequent bottlenecks and causing inconvenience to both pedestrians and road users.
The drive covered major pressure points including Fatima Chowk, Bus Stand Kargil, Lal Chowk Kargil, Changra Market and other congested stretches of the town.
During the enforcement action, fines amounting to Rs. 11,900 were imposed on violators. Three vehicles were seized for operating without valid documents, officials confirmed.
DySP Traffic Kargil, Sonam Angchuk, said that wrong parking would not be tolerated under any circumstances and warned that similar drives would continue in the coming days.
He appealed to shopkeepers, drivers and daily commuters to strictly follow parking rules and cooperate with traffic personnel in maintaining discipline in market areas. He underlined that traffic regulation is a shared responsibility and that public cooperation is essential to ensure smooth movement of vehicles and the safety of pedestrians.
The Traffic Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining orderly traffic conditions and safer roads for all commuters in the town.
