Leh, Aug 14: The Ministry of Home Affairs has conferred the Medal for Meritorious Service upon three Personals of the Ladakh Police ahead of the nation’s Independence Day observances, recognizing their exemplary devotion to duty, operational efficiency, and professional integrity in the demanding high-altitude environment of the Union Territory.
Sub Inspector Tashi Wangail, posted at the CID Headquarters, Assistant Sub Inspector Mohd Ismail, serving at the Police Headquarters Ladakh, and Head Constable Skalzang Dorjey have been selected for this national honor. The awards form part of a broader cadre of 758 such medals presented across India this year, with 635 conferred upon police service personnel nationwide.
Director General of Police Ladakh, Dr. S.D. Singh Jamwal, IPS, congratulated the recipients, commending their unwavering commitment and professionalism. He noted that their service exemplifies the standards expected within the force and motivates fellow officers to maintain similar levels of diligence.
The Lieutenant Governor’s office in Ladakh also lauded the awardees, calling the occasion a source of pride for the entire administration and highlighting their roles as inspirations for emerging personnel in the relatively young Union Territory police structure, established following Ladakh’s bifurcation from Jammu and Kashmir in 2019.
Administered annually by the central government, the Medal for Meritorious Service honors sustained contributions marked by meticulous adherence to protocols and ethical conduct. It reflects the evolving operational framework of law enforcement in frontier regions like Ladakh, where personnel navigate unique logistical and climatic challenges to uphold public order and security.
