Leh, Jan 30: Traffic Police Ladakh, in collaboration with District Police Leh and the Merchant Association Choglamsar, organised a Road Safety Awareness Programme at Choglamsar, Leh today as part of its ongoing efforts to promote traffic discipline and enhance road safety awareness among the general public. The programme aimed at sensitising road users particularly youth, pedestrians and drivers about the importance of adhering to traffic rules in order to prevent road accidents and ensure safe mobility for all. The programme was presided over by Shree Raam-IPS, SSP Leh, who underscored the need for collective responsibility and active public participation in ensuring safer roads across the region. While addressing the gathering, SSP Leh stated that the awareness programme was specifically focused on increasing awareness among drivers, pedestrians and the general public, with the objective of preventing the loss of precious lives in road accidents. He stressed that all drivers must strictly use seat belts, avoid rash acceleration and maintain disciplined driving behaviour. Emphasising the importance of patience and composure while driving, he stated that road safety begins with calm and responsible behaviour, adding that if every individual follows traffic norms diligently, the roads will become significantly safer for all. The programme witnessed the presence of senior Police officers, including Ms. Kunzes Dolma, JKPS, Dy. SP Traffic Leh, Inspector Mehraj Khalid Giri, DTI Leh, Inspector Abdul Mateen, IC Flying Squad Leh and SI Stanzin Zangpo, IC Police Post Choglamsar along with Mr. Fayaz, President, Merchant Association Choglamsar. Members of the local merchant community, commercial drivers, pedestrians and residents of the area participated enthusiastically, reflecting strong community support for road safety initiatives. As part of the awareness drive, a road safety skit was presented by Lasmon Society, highlighting common traffic violations and their consequences as well as the importance of responsible behaviour on roads. Through relatable real- life scenarios, the skit effectively conveyed key messages such as compulsory helmet usage, observance of speed limits, pedestrian safety and strict adherence to traffic rules. The performance received wide appreciation from the audience for its impactful presentation and educational value. On the occasion, SSP Leh and Dy. SP Traffic Leh interacted with the participants and highlighted the crucial role of community involvement in reducing road accidents and saving lives. Dy. SP Traffic Leh encouraged the public to follow traffic norms diligently and to act as responsible road users in their daily lives. Traffic awareness pamphlets containing important road safety guidelines were distributed among the participants to reinforce the messages conveyed during the programme. Emphasis was laid on cultivating traffic friendly behaviour to make Ladakh a safe and traffic friendly destination for residents as well as tourists. As a mark of appreciation and encouragement, all participants were presented with traditional khataks and letters of appreciation from SSP District Leh. The programme concluded with SSP Leh and Dy. SP Traffic Leh expressing gratitude to all participants, organisers, media persons, Lasmon Society and collaborating organisations for their valuable cooperation and for sparing their time to make the Road Safety Awareness Programme a meaningful and successful initiative
