Kargil : In preparation for the nationwide Census 2027 exercise, a three-day training programme for field trainers commenced in Kargil district, focusing on equipping personnel for the Housing Listing and Housing Census phase.
Organised by the Principal Census Officer, Kargil, the session was held at the NIC New Conference Hall in Baroo and brought together district officials, trainers, and technical staff tasked with executing the first phase of the census operation.
Chief Planning Officer Kargil, Kacho Mohd Hussain, and District Coordinator Census Kargil, Sadique Hussain, were present during the training, alongside ten designated field trainers and an equal number of outsourced technical assistants deployed across various tehsil and municipal census charge offices. Officials from the office of the Additional District Census Officer also participated, with Additional District Census Officer Abdul Hadi joining proceedings through a virtual platform.
Master trainers Vijay Kumar, Assistant Director of Census Operations for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, and Mohd Iqbal, Statistical Officer at the Planning, Development and Monitoring Department Kargil, led technical sessions outlining procedures for the Housing Listing Operations (HLO) application. The sessions were designed to familiarise trainers with digital tools and methodologies that will be used during house listing and data collection.
The programme also covered the demarcation of Housing Listing Blocks (HLBs), a critical step in organising census enumeration zones. Trainers were instructed on mapping techniques to ensure clarity and accuracy during field operations.
Officials stated that the trained personnel will subsequently guide enumerators and supervisors at the grassroots level, forming the backbone of census data collection in the district.
The training initiative is part of a broader administrative effort to streamline operations ahead of Census 2027, with district authorities aiming to ensure preparedness and coordination across all levels of implementation.
