NEW DELHI, OCT 22: A Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) on Wednesday ordered the release of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka following the completion of their judicial custody in connection with the October 14 protest at Jantar Mantar.
The two leaders were produced before the magistrate, where their surety documents were also submitted during the proceedings.
Das and Ranka were initially remanded to five days of judicial custody on October 14 after being detained over allegations of entering the denotified protest area at Jantar Mantar and violating peace bonds.
Their custody was subsequently extended by two days on October 19 and was scheduled to end on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, the Delhi High Court declined to intervene in their judicial custody. The court asked the leaders to await the decision of the SEM and approach the appellate court if their grievances remained unresolved.
