Resident spots 3 unidentified persons
JAMMU: Security forces on Sunday launched a search operation at a village in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir following reports of movement of three suspicious individuals, officials said.
A resident of Bedh Khad in the Darui area reported spotting three unidentified persons with one carrying a heavy backpack, moving along a dried-up stream under the cover of darkness.
Suspecting them to be terrorists, though no weapons were visible, the Special Operations Group of the local police, assisted by the Army and paramilitary forces, launched a search operation to trace the suspects.
Officials said the search operation was ongoing in the village and adjoining areas, but there had been no contact with the suspected persons so far.
This is the second consecutive search operation since March 10 in the district. The security forces on March 10 today launched a search operation after suspected Pakistani drone activity was reported along the International Border in Samba district.
The movement of a suspected enemy drone was detected over the general area of Daboh late last night, prompting security forces to initiate countermeasures, including the deployment of more forces and a thorough search of the area to ensure that no weapons or narcotics were airdropped.
A joint search operation by the Army, police and Border Security Force (BSF) was carried out in the area where reports of drone sightings were received.
Police and BSF had also launched a search operation in Bhai Nallah, Lala Chack and Malani in the Rajpura area of the district, following information about suspicious movement.
Pertinent to mention here that, the other day, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary had stated that terrorism has no space in Jammu and Kashmir, but no innocent should suffer under any circumstances.
Speaking to reporters outside the Assembly, the Deputy CM said an inquiry into the Ganderbal incident has already been ordered by the Lieutenant Governor and the government will act based on its findings.
“Jammu and Kashmir has faced terrorism for over three decades. Terrorists have no space here or anywhere in the country. At the same time, no innocent should be killed. Let the inquiry report come,” he said.
Meanwhile, while reviewing the security and operational preparedness along the Line of Control (LoC), Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan the other day commended the formation’s exemplary operational preparedness, doctrinal coherence and resolute professionalism.
In his address to the officers of the Chinar Corps, Gen. Chauhan highlighted that the character of warfare is undergoing profound transformation, necessitating a shift from a domain-centric approach to multi-domain operations (MDO), underpinned by a robust and integrated architecture.
The CDS emphasised the need for a deliberate roadmap to counter emerging challenges — one that fosters technological adaptation, cognitive resilience and collective preparedness through integrated efforts — the spokesperson added.
The spokesperson said the CDS underscored the centrality of jointness, stressing that seamless integration across the land, air, maritime, cyber, space and cognitive domains is indispensable for achieving decisive outcomes.
