Srinagar, October 23: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday inaugurated and laid foundation stones for civic and road infrastructure projects worth ₹14.33 crore in the Beerwah Assembly constituency of Budgam district.
The projects are aimed at improving connectivity, upgrading public amenities and enhancing the tourism potential of the area, according to the Chief Minister’s Office.
During the visit, Omar inaugurated a two-span truss girder bridge over Nallah Sukhnag, with each span measuring 35 metres. He also laid foundation stones for the beautification of Nallah Sukhnag, including the development of walkways and lighting facilities, as well as a broader beautification project for Beerwah town.
Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister said his government was committed to accelerating development across all regions of Jammu and Kashmir.
He also recalled his personal association with Beerwah, thanking the constituency’s voters for supporting him in the 2014 Assembly elections.
Omar said his government had been working to ensure that development projects continued through the efforts of local representatives.
Addressing concerns over electricity infrastructure, he said the foundation stone for a new receiving station had been laid to address residents’ demands for improved power facilities. The station is expected to become operational within four to five months.
On the demand for a sports stadium in Beerwah, the Chief Minister expressed support for the proposal and said the local MLA and Deputy Commissioner would jointly identify a suitable site for the facility.
Omar also acknowledged delays in certain road projects due to shortages of construction materials. He said funds allocated for projects that could not be completed would be reallocated this year, while pending road works, including the main road in the area, would be taken up in the next financial year.
The Chief Minister reiterated that his government would continue working to address public grievances and strengthen infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir.
